Wharf DC

Wharf Overview

The DC Wharf bounds the Buzzard Point neighborhood on the northwest corner. It is impossible to disassociate change in our area with the greater development across the Southwest Washington quadrant. The Wharf, being built in two distinct phases, has been more than a decade in the making and will be fully realized in 2022.

Below are some facts about the first and second phases as well as some historical photos of the southwest waterfront and Wharf construction. There are several places to learn more about the Wharf. I recommend starting in these places:

  • Wharf DC: the Wharf's official website from Hoffman-Madison has plenty of information about each Phase of the development, Phase 2-specific info here
  • Reimagining the Wharf: this 26-minute documentary from 2018 covers a lot of ground as well
  • Southwest, The Little Quadrant That Could: chronicled much of the Wharf's initial development from a local neighbor view

Phase 2 Facts

  • Delivered in 2022, the 3-year length of construction is partially due to the land sitting on top of the Metro green line as it curves from L'Enfant Plaza to Waterfront station
  • 131 hotel rooms, 255 apartments, 96 condominiums
  • 95,000 sq ft of retail space
  • 547,000 sq ft of office space
  • 223 new boat slips
  • 1.5 acre park
  • 5 new buildings, 2 new water buildings
